Species seen today: Humpback whale, white-beaked dolphin, Minke whale, harbour porpoise

Birds seen today: Atlantic puffin, Northern gannet, Northern fulmar, blkack guillemot, common guillemot, eider duck, Great cormorant, European shag, herring gull, glaucous gull, black legged kittiwake, great black backed gull and black headed gull

12:00 - This afternoon the wind calmed down from what it was in the morning, so we could set out with two boats but we stayed mostly close to shore. Right away we came accross harbour porpoises, and they delighted us with their elegant and fast swimming. After they left us we pushed on and after some time we spotted the characteristic dorsal fins of two minke whales, so we headed towards the sighting and we eventually found them. They spent some time with us, diving in and out of the waters of the bay, and feeding.

15:00 - The sea got even more calm this afternoon with a pleasant sailing out. We got a tip from one of the bigger boats that there was a whale in a certain area so we went there directly. We found some flocks of birds so we waited and looked around, patiently. We did not need to wait long to spot the blow of a humpback whale! The whale was coming for 2-3 breaths at the surface and going for 4-5 minute dives. This majestic animal surprised us once appearing only 20 meters from us! We could see the white pectoral fins of the beast through the water. This humpback did not show the tail but it was still a great sighting. After a while the whale disappeared and we decided to not try to find it but to explore other areas. We went to Hvalfjordur and spotted a pod of 7 white-beaked dolphins. They were very calm so we slowly moved around them and could see them very well, once they came under the boat. We went back happy to the harbour.
