Whale Safari Guides

Whale Safari Guides

Species seen today: Humpback whale

Birds seen today: Northern fulmar, eider duck, black back gull, glaucus gull, sooty shearwater, razorbill, common guillemot, black guillemot great cormorant.

10:00 - The weather was good today, even though some wind blowing from south east was making the sea choppy, particularly during the way back. The way out was smooth and we arrived in an area with 3 humpback whales, likely the same than yesterdary. They were synchronised, diving at the same time and surfacing together, with very visible blows in this cold weather and with the low sun. We stayed a while the animals were feeding in the same area going back and forth. When we started leaving one of them breached! A beautiful jump with rotation and falling back in a big splash. Amazing end of the tour.

14:00 - With similar conditions than this morning, we went out in search of cetaceans. We went a bit further north before going to the area were the whales were feeding this morning. There was still one of the humpback whales in the area. We got a great sighting from the beginning as we were waiting a bit further away than the other boats the whale came in our direction crossing us on the side from 20 meters! Then it was a bit harder to see, the whale was moving a lot but we saw the fluke going down a few times. In the end the humpback came towards us again we got even sprayed by the blow of the huge animal and witnessed a last fluke dive from very close. We then came back to the harbour.
