Whale Safari Guides

Species seen today: Humpback whale, minke whale, white-beaked dolphin, harbour porpoise

Birds seen today: Northern gannet, northern fulmar, razorbill, eider duck, great black-backed gull, herring gull.

10:00 - The sea was very flat and with a nice sunrise as we started our morning sail in the bay. We started our sighting with a first humpback whale ! We saw this one a few times before we moved toward a second one that treated us with awesome fluke dives and some very cool feeding behaviors. We observed this one for some time and then headed toward nice jumpy white beaked dolphins, 10 of them at least in the area to 15 spread around. There was also around another humpback whale that we have not seen. On the way toward these dolphins i saw one minke whale that disappeared very fast, and was apparently the only one from my boat noticing. The other boat though saw 2 minke whales in addition to the humpbacks and dolphins. After our dolphin sighting we headed toward another humpback whale, that gave us a great close sighting before we started our sail back toward the harbour. What a lucky tour !!

14:00 - This afternoon was very sunny and beautiful with a calm sea. On our way out we say a harbour porpoise that was logging at the surface and disappeared quickly when we arrived closer. We kept going and saw a humpback whale that was surfacing and fluke diving. There was several boats around so we decided to keep going and find something else. We spotted a splash from far, went there and observed 4-6 white-beaked dolphins spread around. They were calm when we arrived and then one decided to show of and started jumping! It was falling from impressive jump in big splashes. We stayed a bit with those dolphins until we decided to come back to see the humpback. We actually spotted the same than before and spent some time alone with it. The large whale was coming up frequently and feeding we could see well the head with the throat full of water. We then saw that there was a second one not far so we went there saw one fluke dive then saw a third one! This last did not show its fluke but came very close of us! Gasp! We went back to the harbour after this great sightings.
