The sea had settled from the high swell yesterday as the wind had died down and changed direction. The sail out was very smooth as we traveled with the waves. Just as yesterdays day began, many bird species were noticed feeding out at sea. We scanned the area slowly, feeling optimistic something large was below the birds. After ten minutes of waiting, a minke whale was seen cruising at the surface. Soon after, many minkes were found. The afternoon was much of the same again but the minkes had been replaced by a humpback whale. The whale was pectoral slapping and lobtailing. A great day for whale watching despite the inconsistent weather conditions.
