Orcas, humpbacks and Reykjavik
We love spring, and spring seems to love us. We have no words for days like today. The morning started as good as it could, with flat sea conditions, little swell, eastern winds... Everything was promising, and indeed it was. The first encounter of the day was a really, REALLY, rare sighting, a pod of orcas. The pod was about 11 individuals with males, females and calves. The whole pod was gently swimming, so we decided to use drift away with them and they came really close to us, which was certainly breathtaking. But the morning was not over yet and a close encounter with a logging humpback whale was ahead from us. The animal was as calm as the ocean and delighted us with five fluke ups, where we could witness the wonders of this animal from all directions. In the afternoon we went to look for more orcasbut the anbimals already left the place. Anyway, we found a humpback that was giving us quite a relaxed show and a pod of at least 15 dolphins just travelling quietly at the surface of a mirror like ocean.
Days like today are rare to happen, but the truth is that they happen indeed. And you have to be there for the opportunity to show up. And all of us were, indeed, happy to be there.
