What did we see today: humpback, minke whales, white beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises, puffins

We head out on mirror calm seas. The puffins were around in abundance on Akurey, with hundreds floating around on the sea.  On our whale tour we soon spotted a pod of white beaked dolphins.  We followed them for a while and then when the other boats left they approached our boat and swam around us for 10 to 15 minutes. We then went searching for a humpback but he remained elusive so we completed our tour of the bay by watching minkes surface and dive. Up to 10 minke whales put on a show for us - we all smelt their smelly breath! The ride was smooth as silk and as well as the minkes we frequently saw harbour porpoises and many sea birds including arctic terns, Skua, greater black backed gulls, northern fulmar, common and black guillemots, razorbills, northern gannets and black headed gulls.

Our afternoon started off with another minke whale slowly surfacing and then we found a humpback breaching far away.  When we got close with two boats the humpback continued to breach and show us why humpbacks are such incredible animals to watch in the wild!
